Information about tailor-made NT2 courses.
Customized language learning: NT2 courses for individuals and small groups
Elycio Talen offers tailor-made language courses NT2 for individual participants and small groups. These courses are fully tailored to the (business) objectives and study capabilities of individual participants in terms of both content and planning.
Tailor-made courses can be followed individually or in groups of up to six participants. For group courses, we do our best to divide participants by language level. Courses are available for all CEFR levels (A1 to C2).
Course objective
The objective of these courses is to teach participants how to communicate effectively with Dutch speakers in the manner required of their position and/or career and/or to help participants understand Dutch in a way that allows them to optimally achieve their professional ambitions. In doing so, Elycio Talen designs these courses with the view that language, culture and customs are inextricably linked.
Registration
Representatives of ministries and affiliated institutions can register participants by e-mail (talenrijk@elyciotalen.nl) or by phone (+31 70 399 2471).
Participants who have been granted permission from their supervisor to enrol in a course can register by e-mail at talenrijk@elyciotalen.nl.
Registered participants will receive an invitation to for an extensive/detailed placement test interview with a professional language trainer at Elycio Talen.
Custom training advice based on detailed placement test
The placement test consists of a written component (plus a multiple-choice test in some cases) and an oral component.
The following topics will be discussed:
- current proficiency level
- learning objectives
- situations in which participants will use the language at the desired proficiency level
- knowledge of the corporate culture and customs in the Netherlands
- participants’ study capabilities and availability.
The online placement test form (including the language test) takes a maximum of thirty minutes to complete. The form must be completed in one session. The oral component also takes approximately thirty minutes to complete.
Elycio Talen will use the results of the placement test to create a course in which the content, duration and planning are perfectly tailored to the objectives, capabilities and availability of the participant(s).
This information will be incorporated into a quotation and a proposal as to the intensity, frequency and duration of the course, as well as the total number of contact hours required with the trainer(s).
CEFR
The Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) will be used to assess the current and desired proficiency level for speaking, listening, reading, writing and social interacting. The CEFR organises language proficiency on a six-point scale, from A1 (beginner) to C2 (advanced/near-native).
Timetable and location
Each course consists of sessions ranging from two hours to six hours per day with one or more trainers. The dates and times of these sessions will be determined in consultation with the participant and can be scheduled consecutively or on fixed days over a longer period of time.
The courses can be held online or in-company (in the Netherlands – excluding the Caribbean parts of the country). They can also be held at an external location within walking distance of a railway station (The Hague, Utrecht/Amersfoort, Eindhoven or one of two stations in the east and north of the country). Please note that an additional surcharge applies to this option.
Please keep the following in mind:
- If a course or session is cancelled within fifteen calendar days of the scheduled start date, cancellation costs will apply.
- For groups, a course or session can only be cancelled in consultation with the contact person of the relevant organisation.
- Elycio Talen is required to report cancellations and course attendance to the contact person.
Training content
The following components are included in a language course:
- Building and developing general and subject-specific language skills.
- Learning and understanding the customs and culture of the Netherlands.
- Practising the target language in daily work situations.
The extent to which these different elements will be addressed differs per course and depends on prior knowledge and objectives set by the participants and your organisation.
Share relevant examples and situations
To help us tailor the course to your learning objectives and daily context, we would like you to provide us with as many relevant examples and situations in which the target language is used as possible. Examples include documents and e-mails you have received or would like to write, presentations you plan to give or meetings you plan to attend. The trainer will incorporate these materials into the curriculum and teaching methods to the best of their ability.
Homework and self-study
Learning to speak a new language takes time and a lot of practice. Your language trainer will therefore challenge you to use your newly acquired language skills both during and outside class. You can expect to spend roughly the same number of hours on self-study and homework as you do in class.
Final report, advice and certificate
At the end of the course, the participants and the trainer will both fill in a report form with a detailed explanation of the results obtained. This final report will be shared with the contact person of the ministry or institution. The trainer will also issue language advice for further learning and language practice.
On request, the participant will also receive a certificate with the language proficiency level. This certificate will be sent by e-mail to the address the participant specified upon registration.
Follow-up
To help participants further develop their acquired language skills, the following resources will be made available for six months after the end of the course:
- access to the online learning environment (see below) with study materials and exercises
- three consultation hours per month to discuss fulfilling the proficiency agreements and to ask questions about the Dutch language or about the customs and culture in the Netherlands.
For more information, please send an e-mail to talenrijk@elyciotalen.nl.
Feedback
Elycio Talen tailors these courses to the learning objectives, contexts and study capabilities of its participants in order to ensure the best possible results. One of the ways this is done, is by asking you to complete an interim evaluation. It is also encouraged that you contact Elycio Talen if your course no longer meets your needs. You can discuss this with your trainer or with an employee at Elycio Talen.
Online learning environment
Participants have access to an online learning environment with relevant information about their schedule, course materials and homework. You can also use this environment to communicate with your trainer. At the start of the course, you will receive an e-mail with access code for the online learning environment.
Costs
For more information about the costs, send an e-mail to talenrijk@elyciotalen.nl.
